project overview
to count vote from 4 officials and to count a tie breaker. To make the circuit we had to use 2 input gates only which required an extra chip on the board. In the case of a tie the president will have to vote to break the tie.
Problem Conception
the table shows the inputs and outputs of the circuit. The number of combinations is determined by two to the power of number of inputs in this case 16. in case of a tie the presidents vote goes. The purpose of the circuit is to count to see if the vote should pass and to use the president to break the tie.
pSTV + PstV + PsTv + PStv + PsTV + PStV + PSTv + PSTV is the un simplified expression of the circuit which is in sum of products form. I got each of the minterms from the truth table from each row that outputs a one. I choose to create sum of products because it is easier to understand
unsimplified circuit
my circuit is in bus form which means not all wired connections are shown. 24 AND gates are required, seven OR gates are required and 4 inverter gates are needed to create this circuit. To breadboard this circuit you would need 8 chips in total.
Boolean algebra
the simplified expression for the circuit is PV + PS + PT + VST which is what we used to breadboard the circuit without having too many parts.
simplified circuit
The circuit is not in bus to preserve detail in the diagram. The resistor before the LED (not shown in diagram only breadboard) is to limit the power to the LED so it won’t break. 5 AND gates and 3 OR gates are needed to build this circuit. There are 4 gates per chip so 2 LS08 chips are needed and one LS32 chip are needed to breadboard this circuit.
The simplified circuit required far fewer gates to create which means less chips and less complicated to bread board and less things to to go wrong. If we were to attempt to build the unsimplified circuit and it were to not work it would be near impossible to find the problem in so many components.
Breadboarding
just started building in process of powering and grounding IC's
wiring the logic gates and connecting the chips
the completed functioning circuit
it is simpler than it looks to create. this project shows the importance of simplifying the expression before creating the circuit to make it easier to build. the problem states what needs to be done with the circuit and the outcome. The process is taking the inputs into the certain logic gates needed for the problem. the logic gates will organize the inputs to create the desired output. Boolean algebra is used to simplify the expression to create a far simpler circuit and possibly saving money.
