Survey
Survey Summary
As shown above for all three of our concepts we got mixed results for each. The results of each concept were interesting. Some answers were clearly due to misunderstanding. Some didn’t answer the question fully. And some answers didn’t make sense. This could be seen as a lesson to next time make the questions more specific. However we found most liked our first design over the others as well as how many people would purchase the product.
Poster Walk
It is clear from the comments that most think that our concept is a good idea. Most also agree with the problem we are trying to solve. Most concerns are with the “hydraulic” system we have already switched with a linear actuator which does not use fluid. Some people seem to have a more serious problem than others with toasters. Some also made comments that seem as if they did not understand the concept.
Decision Matrix
Final Design
This design will use a linear actuator opposed to a piston because it is simpler and does not use fluid. The actuator will be placed in the empty space in the case of the toaster away from the direct heat and push the tray through a slot in the inner wall. The actuator will be activated via a button on the front of the toaster for the user to have complete control of the system. With the use of simpler parts the product will last longer without repair.
